Iain MacLeod has been an independent consultant since 1980 and formed Oliver & MacLeod in partnership with Peter Oliver in 1984. Since then more than 2000 projects have been undertaken. References or details of specific work carried out in the past may be provided if required.Assistance can be provided on all jobs requiring civil or structural engineering advice. Our present level of professional indemnity is £1 million, but if specific projects require a higher level of cover then this can be arranged.

Services provided

Oliver & MacLeod offer services involving some or all of the following:

• Structural design work associated with new buildings and alterations to existing ones.
   
• Providing structural reports on existing buildings and ascertaining whether proposed alterations are viable from a structural point of view.
   
• Checking the structural aspects of architectural designs. Advising on foundations, loadbearing blockwork and partitions, structural timber, steelwork and concrete and overall structural stability. Designing specific structural elements and providing copies of calculations carried out.
   
• Approved Certifier of Design (Building Structures) to certify the structural design of buildings in Scotland and to provide a certificate under the Structural Engineers Registration Scheme (SER) for submission with applications to Local Authorities for Building Warrant.
   
• Standard assessment procedure (SAP) calculations.
   
• Checking subsoil conditions on site for adequacy for foundation loads.
   
• Carrying out a percolation tests to BS 6297:1983 on site and design of drainage soakaways.
   
• Site checks during the structural phase of construction work.
   
• Design of roads and bridges.
   
• Design of water supply and drainage systems, including tanks and treatment.
